What Is The Least Expensive New Car To Buy

Long gone are the days when inexpensive new cars were outfitted with the bare minimum of features. The least expensive new cars you'll find on the market today are equipped with amenities that drivers both want and need. Forget paying extra for safety features or basic convenience items.

Rather than look at the lowest-priced cars on the market, we've structured our list to include the least expensive option within each of the 10 different market segments, arranged in order of cost. Our list looks mostly at 2022 models, albeit with some 2021 versions, as we wait for automakers to release their latest updates.

With its perky style and price point of around $23,000, the Trailblazer cuts a dashing profile. It's also a fairly practical choice with its spacious cargo area, decent rear-seat space, and a good number of standard safety and convenience features. It's definitely better equipped than a similarly sized hatchback, but it's also more expensive.

You may not think about a droptop when you're considering one of the least expensive new cars on the market, but the Miata offers surprising value at just under $28,000. This honed sports car offers sharp handling and plenty of style for the money.

By the way, if you're looking to spend the least on a new electrified vehicle, we recommend staying informed about the fluid situation around federal EV tax credits. As we explain there in detail, a new law passed in August 2022 significantly changed which electric vehicles are eligible for the tax credits, as well as thresholds that EVs and PHEVs must meet in order to be eligible in future years.

Your vehicle plays a role in your car insurance rates, but how much? We looked at average auto insurance rates for more than 50 top-selling vehicles to find the most and least expensive for insurance.

High repair costs for a vehicle also make it more expensive to insure. For example, cars with advanced safety equipment like parking assist and lane departure warnings can increase repair costs because the equipment is more expensive to repair or replace.

If you buy collision and comprehensive insurance, past claims for similar models will also affect this portion of your bill. This includes the value of the vehicle. For example, if your car is totaled by a falling tree, you can make a comprehensive insurance claim. Your insurance company will pay the value of the vehicle at the time of the tree incident, minus your deductible. So expensive vehicles will have more expensive rates for collision and comprehensive insurance.

With new car prices increasing, what are the least expensive SUVs and cars with all-wheel-drive available for new car shoppers? Does Subaru have the best all-wheel-drive models you can buy this winter? How do their prices compare to other new vehicles with all-wheel-drive (AWD)?

U.S. News compiled a list of the ten cheapest new cars and SUVs with AWD you can buy. Subaru has three of the ten least expensive new models, more than any car brand. We will explain why they are the best choice for new car shoppers this winter.

New SUV and car shoppers should put the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek, 2023 Impreza, and 203 Legacy on their winter car shopping list. They are among the least expensive new models with all-wheel-drive and the best vehicles for severe winter weather.

Updated February 2023: Cars continue to get more and more expensive each year, with prices reaching record heights due to the increased prices of raw materials and ever-in-demand products. Luckily for some, China sells quite a few vehicles which cost less to purchase than one optional extra would cost on something as cheap as a Dodge Charger. This opens the market to many who would not necessarily have been able to afford vehicles - increasing the number of car owners and boosting the economy.

The recent pricing announcement means the Versa has taken the title of cheapest new car in America for 2023. The least-expensive Mirage starts at $16,245, while Kia 000270, +2.02% Rio pricing kicks off at $16,550. Bargain shoppers should note, however, that the Rio has the longest warranty of the bunch.

Furthermore, these vehicles give a comfortable ride, great gas mileage, and a satisfactory driving experience. These inexpensive automobiles have an eye-catching external appearance and several cutting-edge features. In a market where vehicle costs are over the roof, these new cars for sale are among the most reasonably priced options with starting MSRPs below $20,000. Continue reading to discover some of the most affordable vehicles in the market in 2023.

For 2023, Nissan gives the Versa a makeover, and with it comes a little price hike. Because of the low profits from making subcompact automobiles, several other automakers have ceased production completely in favor of larger, more expensive vehicles. Not Nissan, which keeps improving the least expensive vehicle it sells.

The standard engine is adequate for commuting in urban areas, but the continuously variable gearbox it comes with leaves much to be desired. The 200-horsepower turbocharged 4-cylinder is an available upgrade that gives the vehicle a lot more peppy performance. The Forte may be one of the least-priced cars available in the United States, but it offers the same comfortable ride as much more pricey vehicles.

The Hyundai Venue is not the fastest or most feature-rich vehicle in its class, but it offers the best fuel efficiency and is the least expensive. The Venue's design prioritizes passenger comfort above luggage capacity, resulting in narrow aisles and comfortable legroom in both seats. The basic infotainment system has a responsive touchscreen with wireless support for both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

If you're looking for a reliable and inexpensive vehicle, don't assume that you have to settle for anything dull or out of style. The Mazda3 is one of the most reasonably priced vehicles on the market without sacrificing style, thanks to its sleek appearance and upmarket inside.

In contrast, California is the worst state for the initial costs of vehicle purchases. California remains one of the most expensive states in the nation in terms of the annual cost of living which unfortunately also applies to their initial car buying fees. A high sales tax rate of 7.25% and rising gas prices in the state, add more to the average cost of new cars and used cars sold throughout the state.

The most expensive states in terms of automotive insurance premiums are Florida, Michigan, and Louisiana. A major factor that contributes to higher auto insurance rates in Florida and Michigan is the fact that they are no-fault states.

Let there be no doubt: SUVs and CUVs continue to be the categories that dominate our list of the least expensive vehicles to insure. As you can see from the rankings below, many of the cars that the editors assessed for this story fall into the SUV/CUV bin. The loss frequency of these models tends to be much lower due to the driver risk characteristics of the most frequent drivers and owners of these vehicles.

A car can also get more expensive to insure based on the type of coverage you have, your driving history and your location. While not all companies use the same criteria, here is a rundown of a few common factors that make a car more expensive to insure:

The least expensive rankings were based on the best-performing standard set of features for each car model. The most expensive rankings were determined by the worst-performing standard set of features for each car model. Averages are based on full coverage for a single 40-year-old male who commutes 12 miles to work each day, with policy limits of 100/300/50 ($100,000 for injury liability for one person, $300,000 for all injuries and $50,000 for property damage in an accident) and a $500 deductible on collision and comprehensive coverage. This hypothetical driver has a clean record and good credit. The rate includes uninsured motorist coverage.

The least expensive Tesla is the Model 3 Standard Range Plus which has a base price of $42,990 before options, taxes, incentives. But that price can quickly surge past $50,000 by adding upgraded wheels, Full Self-Driving ($15,000) and other interior/exterior upgrades.

The average monthly payment for each city was calculated using the average interest rate of a prime borrower (5.38 percent) and a 60-month term. Income statistics were retrieved from the U.S. Department of Justice. And average used car prices by city are from a study of sales conducted in 2021 by iSeeCars. While the exact amount you pay will be up to negotiation, you will at least have an edge when it comes to what to expect on the car lot.

Columbus and Cleveland are almost neck-and-neck when it comes to average car prices. Since there has been a slight shortage on used car lots, the difference in price is up to negotiation at the dealership. Plus, Ohio is the least expensive state to own a car.
